CLICK HERE FOR FULL INTERVIEW: http://drewmarshall.ca/listen2018-html/#180616 Willard Bond is a prolific independent singer/songwriter performing and recording in the roots/rock tradition, and then some. MICHAEL SCHATTE on The Drew Marshall Show
CLICK HERE FOR FULL INTERVIEW: http://drewmarshall.ca/listen2018-html/#180609 It is no exaggeration to say that Michael Schatte has emerged as one of the most compelling guitarists and singer/songwriters on the North American roots music scene. Since early 2015, when he was a top-eight finalist at the Memphis International Blues Challenge and performed at Tennessee’s historic Orpheum Theatre, Schatte has appeared on some of the continent’s best festival and theatre stages, winning new fans and a reputation for world-class musicianship by way of more than 200 concerts in Canada and the United States. Though Schatte loves the blues, it’s just one ingredient in what he calls Eclectic Electric Roots Music, a brew of original rock, blues, celtic, bluegrass, country and rockabilly he’s been writing, recording, and performing throughout his career. A respected and fiery guitarist, Schatte has developed the habit of leaving audience jaws agape. He’s been compared to world-class players decades his senior, and counts Peter Green, Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Mark Knopfler and of course the aforementioned Richard Thompson as major influences on both his electric and acoustic fingerstyle playing. Reviewing a recent concert at Aeolian Hall in London, The Beat Magazine described Schatte as “one of Canada’s best-kept secrets and certainly one of its most skilled rock performers,” citing his “masterful manipulation of the guitar” and a vocal style “as polished as his picking.” OUR FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/thedrewmarshall/?ref=settings. AVERY RAQUEL The Drew Marshall Show
CLICK HERE FOR FULL INTERVIEW: http://drewmarshall.ca/listen2018-html/#180526 Canadian, singer/songwriter and recording artist Avery Raquel, started in the entertainment industry at a very young age. From television and radio, to animation, voice-over work and a number of professional stage productions across Canada, Avery’s passion for performing grew. Influenced by such Jazz greats as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, and Carmen McRae, her second album focused on Avery’s jazz vocal style, while creating a contemporary Soul sound, reminiscent of artists like Norah Jones, Corrine Bailey Rae and Amy Winehouse. Now, one year later, Avery is releasing her 3rd solo project, ‘My Heart Away’. Comprised of all original music, one can discern that Avery has matured into a strong songwriter, with catchy melodies, strong lyrics and a real sense of musicality, not often seen from someone so young. This 3rd album further moves Avery from her Jazz roots into more mainstream Soul/ RnB, which is exactly where she wants to be. The first single from that album, ‘Come Right Back To You’ debuted on the iTunes Canada Top 200 RnB/Soul song chart at #23. As a performer, Avery has taken the stage across North America, including at some famed New York City clubs like Birdland Jazz club, Metropolitan Room and Don’t Tell Mama Cabaret, as well as top Canadian venues like Koerner Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, The Jazz Bistro, Lula Lounge and Hugh’s Room, and many more. Avery Raquel has also garnered numerous vocal awards over the years, and has excelled on the festival circuit too, delivering winning performances across North America, including with the Berklee Global Jazz Institute on the Newport Jazz Festival stage in Rhode Island USA, as well as at the Toronto Jazz Festival, Oakville Jazz Festival, Brantford International Jazz Festival, TD Niagara Jazz Festival, and South Coast Jazz Festival, as well as other prominent music festivals in Ontario including Riverfest Elora and Beatlesfest in London. She has also been fortunate to the share the stage and studio with the likes of Juno and Grammy winning artist David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Matt Dusk, Lou Pomanti, Holly Cole, June Garber, and other prominent International artists. She’s even performed the national anthem in front of 43,000 people at a Toronto Blue Jays game. OUR FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/thedrewmarshall/?ref=settings.
